Morning Coffee Break: Harry Reid and the Koch Brothers; thought police, university style; Hillary and Boko Haram – Thursday, May 8, 2014
- You have to wonder if Harry Reid would be this unhinged if the Koch brothers were Democratic donors, instead of Republican. The Kochs as one the main reasons for global warming? As PowerLine points out, how about Democrat’s number one donor Tom Steyer, “the billionaire hedge fund manager has invested an estimated $1 billion to $2 billion in developing and expanding coal mines and coal-fired power plants in Asia and Australia.”
- Becoming a nation of cowards, Part II, in The Wall Street Journal’s Dan Henninger’s great column on the continuing attacks of the thought and PC police at the university level. A country that was founded on the principles of free speech and debate, is turning into a country where the only debate will be whispered among friends by coffee tables.
- Learning more about Hillary. In responding to the kidnapping in Nigeria, she tweeted May 4:
Access to education is a basic right & an unconscionable reason to target innocent girls. We must stand up to terrorism. #BringBackOurGirls
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) May 4, 2014
however, according to Daily Beast, Hillary drops the ball again. “What Clinton didn’t mention was that her own State Department refused to place Boko Haram on the list of foreign terrorist organizations in 2011, after the group bombed the U.N. headquarters in Abuja. The refusal came despite the urging of the Justice Department, the FBI, the CIA, and over a dozen senators and congressmen. In May 2012, then-Justice Department official Lisa Monaco (now at the White House) wrote to the State Department to urge Clinton to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist organization. The following month, Gen. Carter Ham, the chief of U.S. Africa Command, said that Boko Haram “are likely sharing funds, training, and explosive materials” with al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. And yet, Hillary Clinton’s State Department still declined to place Boko Haram on its official terrorist roster.”
