Run Joe Run – The Empress has no clothes
Vice President Joe Biden should pay serious attention to those frequently coined phrases — “no time like the present,” “third time’s the charm,” “you have nothing to lose,” “no guts, no glory.” But the million dollar question is, will he?
Joe Biden, at 72 years of age, is one of those Democrats of yore, when the Democratic Party was the real Democratic Party of your parents and grandparents. Remember Mike Mansfield, Sam Ervin, Tip O’Neill? They were illustrative of the people who helped craft the philosophy, if not the political smarts, of then Senator Biden.
After two unsuccessful runs for the Presidency (1988 and 2008), Biden is faced with a third and possible final bid. Reeling off the untimely death of his beloved son, Beau, Biden is faced with intense emotional pressures as he grapples with whether he has the personal fortitude to make one final bid.
A key consideration, as to whether he will or won’t run, is the ultimate outcome, or shall we say denouement, of Hillary Clinton. Now that the media is reporting that the FBI “A-team” is “seriously looking into” the entire email server issue, Mrs. Clinton will soon be forced to further back-pedal, parse her answers, and sink lower in the polls.
The FBI is looking at the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) specifically around the fact that Mrs. Clinton, in her position, should have “known” the materials were most likely classified:
“the FBI will further determine whether Clinton should have known, based on the quality and detail of the material, that emails passing through her server contained classified information regardless of the markings. The campaign’s standard defense and that of Clinton is that she “never sent nor received any email that was marked classified” at the time.”
The regulations also state there is an obligation to meet “safeguarding requirements prescribed by the agency.” Based on the regulations, the decision to use a personal email network and server for government business — and provide copies to Clinton attorney David Kendall — appear to be violations. According to a letter from Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, Kendall and his associate did not have sufficient security clearances to hold TS/SCI (Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information) contained in two emails. Earlier this month, the FBI took physical custody of the server and thumb drives.
Fox News was first to report, Aug. 19, that two emails — from aides Huma Abedin and Jake Sullivan — with classified information kick-started the FBI probe, a point not disputed by the Clinton campaign.
The CFR also require a damage assessment once a possible compromise has been identified “to conduct an inquiry/investigation of a loss, possible compromise or unauthorized disclosure of classified information.”
Farrell said, “There is no evidence there has been any assessment of Mrs. Clinton and her outlaw server.”
So, you see, Mr. Vice-President, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, is in one hell of a mess. And the mess is only going to get messier. The current version of “Clintongate” only serves to remind us who have been through the Clinton morass before beginning with Whitewater, that the Clintons are more like Bonnie and Clyde than George and Martha.
The present meme coming from Clinton supporters that if Biden enters the race, it will only make Clinton a “better candidate” is plain and simple chum. Biden’s entry will only serve to reinforce what a dismally, flawed candidate Clinton really is. Then candidate Obama was spot on when he called her, “likable enough”. But in these times, likable enough is not going to cut it.
Hillary Clinton spent her time at State playing Secretary, while ensuring that she and Bill had plenty in the bank to live like their PAC-meisters Spielberg et al. When she employed a private email server, then she and others determined what was/wasn’t relative to her work, when she deleted the emails and wiped the server clean and then joked about it …. she broke the law, plain and simple. And the FBI will probably conclude that based upon the CFR. Pending a last minute kabash by the White House if the trail leads to closely to the current occupants, Hillary’s campaign has all the markings of 2008.
Joe Biden, in this author’s opinion, is a more formidable candidate than Hillary. He has empathy, and genuinely appears to like people and like campaigning. Despite his gaffes, he’s crazy like a fox.
So the 2016 match-up could be Biden-Warren vs. a possible combination of Cruz, Rubio, Bush, Trump, Fiorina, Kasich. The 2016 election is shaping up to be unlike any in our country’s history. In other words, we’re in for a wild ride.
